AK: Wolf pack reported in North Pole area Monday

Sam Friedman

FAIRBANKS – A pack of wolves was spotted in the North Pole area Monday night, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

The department got a call from someone who said they saw a pack Monday night on Hollowell Road between Plack and Repp roads, said area wildlife biologist Don Young. The report didn’t mention how many wolves were in the pack.

“We haven’t gotten any other reports, they could have just been making a foray and may never return there this year. Who knows.” he said. “We certainly don’t have a pattern.”

The Fairbanks area falls within the territory of several wolf packs, but it’s been years since there have been conflicts between wolves and humans, Young said.

If anyone else sees wolves it would help if they call the fish and game office so they can keep track of sightings and warn the public about dangers to pets, he said. The office’s main phone number is 459-7200.
