CA BC: ‘Stop killing wolves’

Carmen Weld

A B.C.-based conservation organization is hoping a message read from the air will deter the province’s next planned wolf cull.

The Wildlife Defence League took to the South Selkirk to send the message “stop killing wolves” in huge, black letters.

According to the group, the region is the epicentre of the controversial cull, where wolves are being blamed for a decline in the caribou population.

In the South Selkirk and South Peace regions, the provincial government aims to kill 200 wolves, primarily via helicopters, in its second year of a five-year plan.

“Bighorn Helicopters is responsible for the slaughter of over 1,000 wolves in the last decade, and they continue this despicable legacy of killing wolves, including mothers and pups, through their role in the government-sponsored, taxpayer-funded wolf cull,” said spokesman Tommy Knowles.

“We are calling on the B.C. government and Bighorn Helicopters to end the cull and reallocate those resources to caribou habitat protection and restoration.”
