ID: Hunters get extension for wolf hunting season

by Lauren Kahl

IDAHO – The high number of wolves continue to populate the gem state. As a result, the Idaho Fish and Game Department is extending wolf hunting season.

Wildlife officials raised concerns because the numbers are too high. Typically, they only want 150 wolves but there are roughly 1500 wolves populating the state of Idaho.

Idaho Fish and Game Manager, Jennifer Bruns says it’s even causing farmers concerns about wolves preying on their livestock.

Bruns says extending the hunting season could be a great opportunity for hunters in Idaho.

“In the winter months, when animals fur gets a lot thicker; it’s what we call their pelt is their prime, so it’s an opportunity for them to get more money for a healthier thicker pelt,” Jennifer Bruns said.

The season also varies depending on the area. You can find out through the hunting regulations book on the Idaho Fish and Game website.
