An open-ended kill order has been issued following an incident on July 3, when wolves killed four sheep north of Ketchum.
This morning’s Idaho Mountain Express reports that the depradation of the sheep from a migrating band of more than 1,000 sheep was confirmed on July 5, when the kill order was issued by the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Service.
Todd Grimm, Wildlife Services state director, told the Mountain Express that the kill order may be modified later but is currently for “any offending wolves,” including all wolves in the area.
The sheep, grazing in the Lake Creek area, north of Ketchum, were guarded only by one livestock guard dog and no human herders.
