Tracking Survey; Volunteers Needed

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to assist in the 1995-1996 winter carnivore tracking surveys in northern and central Wisconsin. The surveys will emphasize wolves, but will also be looking at carnivores fox size and larger. The volunteer is requested to complete at least three good surveys over the course of the winter. The volunteer may have to make four to five trips in order to get three good surveys due to variable snow conditions. Individuals or groups of volunteers will be assigned a survey block of about 100 miles2.

Volunteers will need to have taken a TWIN or TWA tracking course or James Halfpenny’s tracking course or similar track training courses. At least one person should have taken a track training course in each group. Volunteers will also have to have access to a 4-wheel drive truck, or be able to snow shoe or cross country ski for miles at a time. Information packets, track survey forms and survey block assignments will be sent to volunteers.

If there are any questions, please call (715)762-3204 and ask for Adrian. Interested volunteers should mail a letter of interest along with your name, address, phone number and general area you would be able to survey to:
