Scent Post

Events of the Board of Directors meeting on April 28, 1996, at the Waupaca Field Station bring several items to report.

TWIN recently purchased a professionally made display complete with Plexi signs and lights from Advanced Designs. This display is to be used as a promotional visual at conferences and workshops around the state. The display was recently used at the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers Convention (WSST) and received very positive comments from TWIN members and the general public who attended.

The 1995-96 Sandhill Captive Wolf Study, coordinated by Dick Thiel and funded by TWIN, ended its season with great success. The 31 high school students who tracked Twisted-Knee, analyzed his scat and surveyed his deer kill collected some very valuable data and gained some excellent experience in the field of wildlife research. TWIN will undoubtedly continue to fund this worthwhile project this upcoming fall.

The brand new TWIN Sales Catalog, The Northern Howl, is now available, thanks to board member Paula Hanson. The catalog contains all items for sale including books and videos accompanied by a short review, T-shirts, mugs, hats and much more. Catalogs are available upon request by writing: TWIN Catalog, % Hanson, PO Box 286, Poy Sippi WI 54967. A special thank you again to Paula for her hard work and dedication to TWIN.

TWIN has been very busy on the speaker circuit the past few months. Wolf presentations have been given at WSST, Fond du Lac Audubon Discovery Day, McKinley Elementary School in Stevens Point, Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, and the Green Lake Elementary School Science Fair.

The TWIN winter workshops held at Treehaven in Tomahawk this past winter were also very successful even with the fifty below zero temperatures during the February workshop. TWIN thanks Treehaven for their wonderful hospitality, cooperation and great food. The dates for the 1997 winter workshops have been finalized and registration is currently being accepted. Workshops fill up fast so call Treehaven now, 715-453-4106, and ask for registrar June Everson. Hope to see you all there this next winter.

A decision was made by the Board to hire a contract administrator to help with the increasing amount of work that has developed over the years as TWIN has grown and continues to grow. This person will assume responsibility for membership (new and renewal), publication mailings and public relations. A Personnel Committee is currently being formed consisting of Executive board members and TWIN members to serve as an evaluator of this administrator’s performance. TWIN thanks Lorrie Barber and her committee for their efforts to develop the duties and provisions of this position.

Patrick Arndt
TWIN Chairperson
