Events of the Board of Directors meeting on August 17, 1996, at Madison, WI, bring several items to report.
After announcing the position and accepting applications, the TWIN Board unanimously voted to hire Stephanie Funck from Madison, WI, as the new contract administrator for the organization. She will be handling membership, publication mailings and public relations for TWIN. We welcome her aboard and look forward to the improvements this position will offer our members and organization.
TWIN’s Study of Wolves workshops held at Treehaven is very happy to announce the addition of a new workshop designed for high school teachers accompanying a small number of advanced students. This workshop will be held in April, the exact date is yet to be decided, and will be limited to no more than 30 participants. Teachers, the 30 openings will fill up fast so make plans now with your school district. For more information, phone Treehaven at 715-453-4106 or myself at 414-987-5466.
Once again, TWIN will financially sponsor and distribute posters in the central forest region of Wisconsin for the upcoming hunting season. These posters educate area hunters about distinguishing a coyote from a wolf in the wild. The central forest is not included in the coyote hunting closure zone at this time, and is currently housing four packs of wolves. TWIN hopes that this educational effort will once again keep the wolves alive and well.
Due to the increasing success of TWIN’s Wolf Study Lab Box (secondary level), which is rented for one week by educators and contains 12 different hands-on lab activities about wolves and their food web, TWIN is happy to announce the addition of a Wolf Study Lab Box for elementary education. This new lab box will be up and ready for this upcoming school year. Please write to TWIN for more information.
I would like to take this time to personally invite all of our members to the upcoming annual meeting held at Pigeon Lake near Drummond, WI, on October 12-13, 1996. Pigeon Lake is a beautiful setting with wolves nearby in every direction. This is a great time to meet the board members and for us to meet you, the membership. Bring your family and enjoy the beautiful northwoods in autumn. Hope to see you there.
