MT: Wolf hunting closes in northwest Montana

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Wildlife officials closed in portions of northwestern Montana after hunters filled the harvest quota for the area.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) spokesman Tom Palmer says hunters filled the 19-wolf quota for an area that includes portions of Lincoln and Flathead counties.

Meanwhile, wildlife officials have reopened wolf hunting in another area that includes the Swan Valley and the Middle and South forks of the Flathead River. FWP says the last wolf killed there was an illegal harvest and will not count against the quota.

At least 122 wolves have been killed by hunters in Montana so far this year, out of a statewide quota of 220.
