NC: Groups offer $21K reward in 2 NC red wolf deaths

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Several groups are offering a $21,000 reward for information on the deaths of two red wolves that were found in Washington County.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a news release Tuesday that the N.C. Wildlife Federation, the Red Wolf Coalition, the Humane Society of the United States and the Center for Biologicial Diversity are offering the reward.

The first wolf was located Oct. 28, and the second one was found two days later.

The groups will determine eligibility for payment of a reward to people who provide essential information that leads to an arrest and criminal conviction.

The maximum criminal penalties for the unlawful taking of a red wolf are one year imprisonment and $100,000 fine. About 100 red wolves roam five North Carolina counties
