NO: Two remanded into custody for illegal hunting of wolves

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

Two of the twelve men who earlier this week were remanded into custody in Norway on suspicion of unlawful hunting of wolves.

It was Tuesday morning that police in Hedmark arrested twelve men between 18 and 51 years old in the municipalities along the border with Värmland. Reconnaissance had been going on for some time and police seized, among other weapons, computers and telephones.

The two remanded men will have no letters and no visitors until 17 April, while the police investigation continues. Another four people will eventually be arrested and six of the arrested men have been released.

Police suspect that the men engaged in illegal hunting of wolves, but how many wolves were killed or if the wolves belong to the Swedish territory is not yet clear.

NRK Hedmark reports that the arrest of the twelve men has stirred up emotions in Hedmark and many believe that the contradictions between wolf opponents and authorities will harden further. Some see the police action as a pure provocation.
