Treehaven Field Station

Treehaven Field Station is a multiple-use educational facility operated by the College of Natural Resources of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Treehaven is a new field station, with facilities and programs opening in 1985.

ACCESS

8 mi (13.3 km) east of US 51, and 7 mi (11.7 km) west of Wisconsin Hwy 17, on County Hwy A, between Tomahawk and Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

ENVIRONMENT

Treehaven is situated in north central Wisconsin at the southern edge of the northern highlands lakes region. The area experiences warm summers, pleasant but short fall and spring seasons, with long cold winters. Treehaven is mostly northern deciduous forest of birch and aspen, with coniferous lowlands of spruce and fir. Red and white pine stands and some plantations exist. Aquatic features include two small cold water streams, beaver ponds, and tamarack bogs. Nearby are hundreds of lakes, the Wisconsin River, county, state, and national forests. Active trout stream management, silviculture practices, wildlife habitat improvements, and other natural resource practices occur throughout the year on the property.

FACILITIES

Treehaven is a complete year-round residential center, being able to accommodate up to 120 people. Two living centers contain carpeted rooms for lodging and study rooms. The Young Lodge provides excellent food service, lounge, and library. The classroom center contains offices and up to 8 classroom-meeting rooms and a computer lab. Adjacent is our faculty lodge for up to 8 people. Our assembly hall can accommodate up to 150 persons for large group meetings. Eight mi of maintained trails traverse the property.
