Five men accused of plotting poaching of wolves were acquitted Wednesday by the Mora District Court. The prosecutor has already decided to appeal the verdict in the high-profile case reports P4 Dalarna.
It was over two years ago that the men were arrested in the region between Härjedalen and Dalarna. According to the prosecutor, the men, who are all from Härjedalen, were tracking and stalking wolves using among other things snowmobiles.
The defendants have denied the crime and claimed that they were out to prepare to hunt for beaver. The District Court believes that the sequence of events the prosecutor describes seems both coherent and logical but it is not possible to link the events to the defendants.
