SE: Go-ahead for the culling of a wolf

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

VÄNERSBORG / TT

The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland changed its mind and cleared the way for the culling of a wolf in the Kroppefjäll territory. A month ago the Board rejected a request but after three more attacks on dogs the wolf hunting may start now.

During the summer and autumn the wolves in the area, which includes Mellerud’s, Vänersborg’s, Färgelanda’s and Bengtsfors’ municipalities, have killed sheep on six occasions and several times also attacked and killed dogs. According to the provincial government it is very likely that the attacks will continue and therefore gives permission to shoot a wolf although it is not possible to determine which of the wolves caused the damages.

“It is hoped that the group will change their behavior if one of the wolves is removed, so that the attacks cease,” writes the provincial government.
