The last wolf in this year’s wolf hunting has been shot. Soon after 3PM on Sunday the twelfth wolf was shot in Örebro County, but it is unclear within which territory it was.

“The hunt leader rang as soon as he possibly could, so I could not get any information about where the wolf was shot. But the hunt is in any case suspended” says Mariana Skoglund, head of nature and wildlife of the provincial government of Örebro County to TT.

Overall, there was an allocation of 44 wolves in Dalarna, Värmland and Örebro. This year’s wolf hunting is punctuated by resistance to the hunt and the Swedish attitude to hunt within the designated territory has among other things been criticized by the EU.

The hunt, however, seems to continue. Next week, the provincial government could decide to give permission to shoot more wolves in Dalarna.

A total of 13 wolves were shot in Örebro County, but a wolf died in the hunting area due to mange and thus was not counted in the quota.
