“The Swedish Society for Predators intends to appeal the decision on the licensed hunting of wolves,” says the association’s president, Värmlander Torbjörn Nilsson.
“Our opinion is that this licensed hunting of wolves is illegal, because it makes it difficult for wolves to increase in number and spread. In this way, it counteracts that the wolf can reach what is called the favorable conservation status.”
He now expects that the association will appeal because they think that the decision is in line with the EU Habitat Directive.
“We think that the wolves will get to become more and more spread, especially to the north so we can have a successful exchange of individuals with new genes from Finland and eastern populations,” says Torbjörn Nilsson.
