SE: Predators organization dislikes wolf hunting decision

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

The Predators organization is critical of the county administrative board’s decision to allow hunting of wolves in winter. If the organization will appeal the decision, however, is as yet unclear.

“It does not feelgood at all. We do not believe that the Swedish wolf population has a favorable conservation condition,” says Jan Bergstam, regional director of the Society for Predators in Värmland. Bergstam is also member of the Wildlife Management Advisory Board.

The hunt this winter will continue from 9 January to 15 February.

“Finally, it seems that it will be a hunt which takes into account the animals and not the hunters. It has been decided on the basis genetically important animals, who will be saved.

Jan Bergstam is not surprised at the number of animals allowed to be shot. If the decision will be appealed he does not want to respond today.

“We will have a board meeting next week and then the issue will be addressed,” says Jan Bergstam.
