SE: Swedish-born wolves shot in Norway

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

Norwegian hunters shoot Swedish wolves that wandered into Norway. In a report that Norwegian rovdata did shows of the 15 wolves that died in Norway, 14 were born in Sweden.

It is not only Swedish workers that go to Norway, for Norwegian rovdata sees an increasing trend in the Swedish wolves in Värmland and Örebro looking increasingly westward. Between August 1 last year, and the end of July this year, 15 wolves have died in Norway, nine males and six females. Of those, 14 were born in the middle parts of western Sweden. Most that have been shot were shot either through a licensed hunt or culling.

“It is certainly found to be so,” says Øystein Flagstad, geneticist at Norwegian Rovdata.

Most of the wolves come from the three territories in western Sweden and the two wolves came from the genetically important Tiveden territory in Närke, which is confirmed by DNA analysis.
