SE: The Riksdag wants to keep the present wolf policy

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

POLITICS / TT

The Riksdag wants to see continued targeted and selective hunting of wolves. A majority of the environmental and agricultural committee members states in a notice to the Government that the new predator policies the Alliance Government introduced in December 2013, continue to apply. It led to the Environmental Protection Agency giving permission for licensed hunting, although the European Commission warned that it is contrary to EU rules. The decision was appealed in several instances.

In February this year, the government decided that the wolf issue is to be investigated again. The cause was said to be that the current national minimum level of strain, 270 wolves, in particular for largely based on political considerations. But the parliamentary majority consisting of the Alliance parties and SD, thus considers that the Alliance government’s predatory policies continue to apply. S, MP and V have reservations against the decision.
