SE: Three wolves shot in Dalarna

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

DALARNA / TT

After a day of hunting in Dalarna three wolves were shot – all females. One wolf had mange and will possibly be deducted from the quota – which makes four or five wolves can be shot in the county.

“We have not decided on it yet, but possibly it will be counted,” says Fredrik Dalerum, predator officers at the provincial government.

The wolf hunt kicked off in Dalarna on Saturday. The first wolf was shot in the Sången territory, the other (mange infected) in Olsjö territory and the third was also shot in Sången territory.

The County Administrative Board decided in early December for a license hunting of eight wolves. The decision was appealed and the Environmental Protection Agency overturned the provincial government then because it had not shown that all criteria for license hunting were met.

In mid-January, the provincial government made new decision to license hunt that involved two territories and seven wolves. Although this decision was appealed. But claims for injunctive relief ware dismissed and the hunt, which may last until 15 February, started as planned.
