SE: Wolf Pups are causing debate

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

News P4 Västmanland

The Centre Party, Sheep farming Association and Farmers’ Association, LRF, criticize an opinion of the Administrative Board of the wolf territory in Västmanland it would be possible to place the wolf pups in. The Centre, Sheep farming association and LRF think it is quite impossible with the deployment and want to see better plans from the provincial government.

“As the situation is in the predator management area right now, almost in free fall, it is impossible to secure a resolution like this out in the general population and based on that, we think that it is impossible to implement this,” says center party rock Christer Erisson.

The County Board has been tasked by the government to point out the wolf territory where one could place the wolf pups. It does not mean that it is certain that the puppies will be deployed there, but the county administrative board’s opinion should be included in decision making.

In the opinion the County Board writes that there really is no territory that meet the criteria set out in order to bring out puppies, for example, there is no female wolf with a functioning radio collar. However, Norn, and Färna, the two territories that are at least inappropriate, according to the opinion.

The State Provincial wildlife management mission – where it sits with political representatives and representatives of hunting, conservation, forestry, among other things – supported the majority behind the County Administrative Board’s opinion.

However, LRF, Sheep farming ‘Association and the Centre Party wanted a clearer statement that it is impossible for the deployment of wolf pups.

“One respect the view, even as I do as governor and the government representative in the county think it is reasonable that if we receive a request, also provide suggestions on what can be done, even if we do it surrounded a lot of reservations,” says Governor Ingemar Skogö, who is also chairman of the State Provincial wildlife management mission.
