SE: Wolf shot that attacked a dog

TORSBY / TT

A wolf was shot by a private individual at Kroksjön in Torsby on Thursday morning after it attacked a dog during moose hunting season, writes SVT Värmlandsnytt online.

“The dog could just stand on the front legs. I was thinking that maybe either a bear or wolverine who was nearby, then I see how the wolf another attack against the dog and I shoot the wolf directly,” tells the hunter Arne Sandberg for the TV channel.

The dog should have been brought to veterinary care.

According to the County Administrative Board of Värmland this is a so-called section 28 case, that is, that the hunter shoots in self-defense situation.

“It happens every now and then to use this section in situations like this, but it is not very common,” says Maria Hammarstrom, head of animal welfare and wildlife of the provincial government.
