WA: Think you’ve seen a wolf? Report it

by Scott Sandsberry

YAKIMA, Wash. — With at least five established wolf packs within the state and others possibly out there as well, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking for help from the public to keep tabs on their whereabouts.

The WDFW has set up a site (http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/gray_wolf/reporting/) at which people can report seeing, hearing or otherwise suspecting the presence of a wolf.

“Our state’s wolf-management efforts depend on knowing how many wolves are here, where they are, and where they’re going,” said Donnie Martorello, the WDFW’s carnivore section manager. “By filing reports on wolf activities, the public can help us direct our monitoring efforts.”

So if you think you’ve seen a wolf, heard a wolf’s howl or found evidence of one, don’t keep it to yourself. Share it with the world — or, at least, the state wildlife department.
