WA: Wildlife official: wolf killed sheep in NE Wash.

The Associated Press

SPOKANE, Wash. — A Washington state wildlife official says a wolf killed one sheep and injured two others on a small Spokane County ranch near Nine Mile Falls.

Regional state Fish and Wildlife director Steve Pozzanghera says the agency has also confirmed another wolf pack – in southern Stevens County, north of the Spokane Indian Reservation. He says biologists documented at least five gray wolf pups this week via remote video cameras. The new Huckleberry pack is Washington’s seventh confirmed wolf pack.

Pozzanghera says the agency is working with the Spokane County sheep owner on compensation.

Wolves are listed by the state as endangered throughout Washington. In the western two-thirds of the state, wolves are federally listed as endangered.
