WY: Gray Wolf Hunt Area 8 North of Jackson Closes

By Chris Foy

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced that gray wolf Hunt Area 8, the Fish Creek Management Unit north of Jackson, closed Thursday at 2:40 p.m. The area closed because the mortality quota of seven wolves was reached.

In a media release, Game and Fish says wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when either the mortality quota is reached or when the season closes on December 31 – whichever comes first.

Wolf hunters can call the Gray Wolf Mortality Quota Hotline at (800) 264-1280 to find out which areas are still open. Hunters can also pick up a copy of the 2012 Gray Wolf Hunting Regulations.

Any wolf harvested in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area or the Seasonal Wolf Trophy Game Management Area between October 15 and February 28 must be reported by calling the hotline within 24 hours. The pelt and skull must be presented by the licensee within five days to a game warden, wildlife biologist or Game and Fish regional office for registration.
