WY: Nat Geo wolf photographer speaks

By Isa Jones, Jackson Hole Daily

People can peek into the mind of a National Geographic photographer tonight.

Ronan Donovan will give a talk about his work at National Geographic and some of the shots he was able to capture for the recent Yellowstone issue of the magazine.

Donovan specializes in camera trapping, the technique of setting up traps of sorts so that when an animal passes into range, the camera starts firing.

It takes a lot of patience, skill and creativity, as he will explain.

Donovan is based in Montana, and while his work in Yellowstone is focused on big predators — bears and wolves — he has documented wildlife all over the world.

Tonight’s talk is part of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s “Our Public Lands” lecture series and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

The evening will also include a brief speech by Caroline Byrd, the Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s executive director. She will discuss land management and how it relates to animal migration.

The talk is free to attend. It begins at 6 p.m. in Teton County Library’s Ordway Auditorium. Space is limited, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Information about the event can be found at TCLib.org, and information on Donovan can be found on his website, RonanDonovan.com.
