On Thursday, July 22, 2010, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT, celebrates “Wolf Day” with events taking place throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening. The fun-filled day features activities for students and adults focusing on the wolf and featuring special appearances by the live wolf Atka and by Emmy award-winning cinematographer Bob Landis, who will provide commentary at an exclusive screening of his latest project on the wolves of Yellowstone Park. Wolf Day programs are co-sponsored by the Yellowstone Park Foundation, http://www.ypf.org The day begins with Wolf Stories at 11 a.m. for children ages 3 to 5 and their parents or guardians. The children will see the Museum’s beautiful gray wolf on exhibit, hear amazing stories about this fascinating animal, and then create wolf masks, so they can howl like real wolves. All materials are included in the fee of $6, Bruce Museum members are $4. At 1 p.m. Ambassador Wolf Atka, a real live, 6-year-old Arctic gray wolf, makes a special appearance with his handler Maggie Howell of the Wolf Conservation Center, South Salem, NY.
This program is for children ages 6 years and up. The fee is $7 for non-members, $5 for Museum members, and includes admission to the 2:30 p.m. film. At 2:30 p.m., Emmy award-winning wildlife cinematographer Bob Landis hosts a special screening of his wildlife film In the Valley of the Wolves (55 min.) made for the PBS series Nature. This film follows the most celebrated wolf pack in North America known as the Druids. Mr. Landis has chronicled the adventures of the Druids since their very beginnings and in this, his third film on the wolves, the Druids find themselves in trouble for the very first time. This program is suitable for adults and children ages 6 years and up. Wildlife cinematographer Bob Landis returns at 7 p.m. for an exclusive screening for adults of his latest film project, Casanova Wolf. Emmy award-winning filmmaker Landis provides commentary for his never-before-seen footage of the wolves of Yellowstone Park. Bob Landis has produced many films for programs such as National Geographic and Nature. His work has taken him to Denali, Kluane, and Algonquin National Parks, but his home is Yellowstone Park, where he has excelled in the art of wildlife filmmaking for over 30 years. The fee is $7; $5 for Bruce Museum members.
