Written by
Kevin Naze

Of 72 wolves found dead in Wisconsin in 2010, 26 were killed by vehicles and 15 by illegal shootings. Of 16 collared wolves that died, seven were shot illegally, two died from vehicle collisions, two were euthanized in human safety situations, one was killed by other wolves, one by mange and disease and three unknown.

» Calf predation by wolves and black bears is slowing the growth of the state’s Clam Lake elk herd, which is estimated to be at around 168 animals 16 years after the reintroduction effort of 25 Michigan elk began in northwest Wisconsin.
