MT: Group demands return of federal wolf protections at Capitol

TOM KUGLIN, Independent Record

HELENA — Members of the Wolf and Wildlife Action Group plan to deliver a “violation notice” to Gov. Steve Bullock at the state Capitol at 1 p.m. Monday, for what the group called the state of Montana’s violations under the United Nations Charter for Nature.

Montana’s wolf policy allows for a landowner to kill up to 100 wolves, using what WWAG calls cruel and barbaric methods such as aerial gunning and trapping, the group said in a news release. The policy is an attempt to exterminate the gray wolf, the release says, and WWAG demands that wolves return to federal protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Failure to correct the violations will result in charges before the International Court of Justices, the news release said.
