WI: Dog killed by wolves in Bayfield County

Wildlife Services confirmed that wolves killed a 5 year old black and tan bear hound on July 19, according to a DNR press release. The attack occurred in the town of Barnes in Bayfield County.

This is the first confirmed gray wolf kill of a dog in nearly five months. According to the DNR page, this is the seventh dog kill of the year, and the first since Feb. 22 in Clark County.

Hunters are reminded to use the caution area maps on the DNR website to help reduce conflicts during this year’s bear dog training and hunting season. For more information and a caution area map, head to the gray wolf webpage.
