SE: Hit wolf was genetically important

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

NATURE / TT

A wolf was hit and died outside Oskarström Halland in July came from the genetically important pair of Tiveden, says the Environmental Protection Agency.

The wolf couple is important because both immigrated to Sweden from the east in 2013, and thereby gives new blood to the Swedish wolf population. The couple moved to Tiveden, at the border between Västergötland and Närke, where they formed pack territory.

Three of the couple’s pups have been shot through culling, and at least three have been killed in traffic. It is not yet known if the pair in Tiveden had any puppies this year.
