Agency Creates Wolf Management Working Group

Agency Creates Wolf Management Working Group

The state Division of Wildlife board assembled a wolf management working group Thursday morning. Kevin Conway, director of the Division of Wildlife Resources, said it will “begin development of a wolf management plan,” said Conway.

The group will work with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on wolf issues such as depredation compensation and monitoring of wolf impact on other species with technical assistance from state and federal scientists.

Each of the following groups will choose one representative, except for the wolf advocate group, which is allotted two:

    * The Utah Division of Wildlife Board

    * Utah State University — Department of Natural Resources and Department of Political Science

    * Wolf advocates — Utah Wolf Forum

    * Sportsmen — Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife

    * Agriculture — Utah Farm Bureau, Utah Wool Growers

    * Local government — Utah Association of Counties, Ute Indian Tribe

    * At large conservation groups — Utah Audubon, Utah Wildlife Federation
