AK: Tracking down North Pole wolf rumors

by TimMowry

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game on Monday was trying to track down whether rumors about a pack of wolves attacking and killing dogs in the North Pole area are true, but biologists don’t have much to go on at this point.

Wildlife technician Jesse Dunshie said the department received “three or four” calls Monday concerning rumors about a pack of four wolves that had attacked and killed two dogs in the area of Hurst, Dawson and Plack roads, all of which are tributaries of Badger Road.

“We haven’t had any first-hand reports of anybody saying wolves have eaten their dog,” Dunshie said. “We’ve had people saying they’ve heard rumors that wolves are eating dogs. Right now we don’t have anything solid.”

Anybody with any first-hand knowledge of wolves attacking or killing dogs in that area are asked to call Fish and Game at 459-7206.
