Skiers are welcome back on trails that were closed after a wolf killed a dog and followed a cross-country skier, resulting in Conservation ordering trails south of Hudson Bay Mountain Road be closed until they dealt with moose carcasses and the wolves watching over them.
Message released by the Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre:
Conservation Officers lifted the closure notice for the dog and Pine Creek trails. People can now go on the trails but the Nordic Centre is not officially open until we get more snow.
According to the CO Service there has been no recent sign of the wolves. The moose carcasses have been removed so the wolves have apparently moved on.
Please be aware that the Nordic Centre is in wildlife territory, so be watchful for any large animals such as wolves, moose, lynx, etc.
And think snow so we can officially open.
