The Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve has started the new year without a few members of its family.
On the morning of Jan. 1 Haliburton Highlands OPP were called to the forest to investigate an incident which occurred the night before, sometime between 5 and 7 p.m.
The police discovered damage to the wolf centre, which allowed five wolves to disappear from the compound and enter the surrounding forest.

The police want to remind the public that Haliburton County is home to various species of wild animals and that they should not be approached. Any wolves believed to belong to the wolf centre should be reported to the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve by calling 705-754-2198.
