CA SK: Wolves in Saskatchewan North

A farmer in northeast Saskatchewan says wolves are becoming a bigger problem in the area.

Norman Belchamber is about 40 kilometers southeast of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. Belchamber, who has a trappers licence, says wolves have a minimal impact on his operations but neighboring livestock producers and wildlife are being affected.

The province launched a special wolf hunting licence for the northern area which runs from last September to the end of March.

The Crop Insurance Corporation pays out for wildlife damage, and compensation for wolves and livestock reached 92 thousand dollars in 2013.
