Care Plan for Finlands Wolves

Care Plan for Finland’s Wolves

Finland is drawing up a national care programme for the country’s wolves. The aim is to promote the security of the wolf population and to assist peaceful co-existence between people and wolves.

Public gatherings will be arranged across the country in the months ahead where people will be able to express their thoughts on wolves and exchange ideas on the wolf population. An internet questionnaire is also under consideration.

Preparation of the plan starts with a survey by game keeping and nature protection bodies. Its final composition will be decided by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Around 130 to 150 wolves are believed to live in Finland. Wolves became almost extinct in the country at the beginning of the 20th. Century. Now the number of wolves is growing steadily.
