DNR confirms dog’s death caused by wolves

Wildlife Services confirmed that wolves from the Moose Road Pack killed a bear hound in the town of Dairyland on Oct. 7.

The dog was a 1-year-old female Walker hound. Bear hunters should be aware of the potential conflict and exercise caution within the area bounded by Highway 35 to the east; County T along the south; the Minnesota/Wisconsin line on the west; and Moose Road on the north.

A caution area map and more information can be found on the DNR’s dog depredation page, which can be found through the website dnr.wi.gov.

To date this year, two dogs have been killed and another injured by wolves in Douglas County. Along with the Oct. 7 incident, a bobcat hound was killed by wolves from the Lake Nebagamon Pack on Jan. 18 in Solon Springs. A pet beagle was injured by wolves from the Moose Road Pack in the town of Dairyland on July 18.
