DNR seeks information in wolf shooting
SPARTA — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is seeking information about a shooting of a timber wolf in Monroe County.
The dead wolf was discovered by a deer hunter Sunday on the second day of Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer hunt.
The wolf was found in the town of New Lyme, an area known to be inhabited by wolves. The deer hunter reported the find at 2:45 p.m. Wardens Matt Modjeski and Mark Little believe the wolf was killed by a firearm.
Wolves are currently listed as an endangered species in Wisconsin by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
