Federal shutdown postpones pair of wolf hearings

Henry Miller

Hearings Wednesday in Sacramento and Friday in Albuquerque, N.M. on the issue of federal Endangered Species Act listings for wolves have been postponed because of the federal shutdown.

The public hearings were to take comments on service’s recent Endangered Species Act proposed rule to list the Mexican wolf as an endangered subspecies in the Southwest and to delist the gray wolf elsewhere.

Both were expected to draw huge crowds from both sides, particularly on the delisting of gray wolves..

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the postponements via email this morning.

The hearings will be rescheduled after the shutdown is concluded, the email says.
