Feds seek assistance in deaths of two wolves

PIERCE – Federal officers are seeking information about the deaths of two
wolves in north-central Idaho, and rewards are being offered to find their
killers. A radio-collared female designated B-152 and an uncollared male
appear to have been shot about five miles southwest of Pierce in
Clearwater County, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Thursday.

The wolves were members of the Hemlock Ridge pack, which has about eight
animals. The carcasses were found Sunday by hunters, one along an ATV
trail and the other along a road in the Brownýs Creek-Space Creek area.

The last aerial flight which reported B-152 was alive was on Nov. 13. She
was fitted with a radio collar in June by biologists.

The service and the Defenders of Wildlife are offering rewards of $5,000
per wolf for information leading to an arrest or conviction in the case.

The killing of an animal protected under the Endangered Species Act is
punishable by a fine of up to $100,000 and one year in jail. Callers to
Fish and Wildlife can remain anonymous.
