FI: Alarm on low wolf population in Finland

HELSINKI / TT FNB

The wolf population in central and southern Finland has become so small that it can not handle additional hunting licenses as considered by environmental organizations. In early February, there were according to the organizations only 120-135 wolves in Finland. It is clearly less than a few years ago. Poaching is considered the main reason for the sharp decline.

The wolf was classified as “very” endangered in Finland. Environmental organizations believe that one should consider classifying the wolf as “extremely” endangered.
