Meeting on wolf conflicts set

Meeting on wolf conflicts set

RAWLINS – A meeting is planned with federal wildlife and agriculture
officials later this week to address increasing wolf conflicts in
southern Wyoming.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Wildlife Services office, are expected to attend the
meeting Friday at the Jeffrey Center.

Topics include identifying and documenting wolf attacks, compensation
and preventative measures.

“This meeting is primarily to give landowners and ranchers some dialogue
with the Fish and Wildlife Service,” said Larry Hicks, director of the
Little Snake River Conservation District. “It’s not a public forum on
wolves as much as it’s designed as an informational meeting for stock
growers.”

At least two cattle were killed in December by wolves near Wamsutter.
