Michigan officials to count wolves ahead of hunting decision

by NBC25 Newsroom

They will be looking specifically at the upper Lower Peninsula

GAYLORD — Michigan wildlife officials are getting ready to try and county how many gray wolves live on the state’s upper Lower Peninsula.

The survey will run through early March.

The wolves have made a comeback after nearly being extinct in the early 1990’s.

Recently the endangered designation was removed from the wolves.

The Michigan Legislature has designated the gray wolf as a game animal, which is the first step in allowing a hunting season.
