Minnesota DNR to announce details of wolf hunt

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota wildlife officials are set to announce details of the upcoming wolf hunting and trapping season.

This season will be the second since the animals came off the endangered list in the region.

Hunters and trappers killed 413 wolves last fall and winter after a target harvest of 400 was set. Department of Natural Resources officials said earlier this month they would likely drop the harvest quota a bit in the second season.

That announcement came after the DNR’s annual wolf survey found the population had fallen by about 710 animals over the past five years.

Wolf hunting opponents have called on the DNR to cancel the season.
