MN: WSC donates pack of wolves to Wisconsin zoo

By The Post Review

In its ongoing support of education, the Wildlife Science Center near Forest Lake is donating a pack of wolves to a zoo in Wisconsin.

The Menominee Park Zoo in Oshkosh will be home to four gray wolves that were born in 2003 at the Wildlife Center, which first provided the zoo with a pack of wolves in 2002. The last of the pack died this year at age 16.

This partnership is one example of the Wildlife Center’s educational reach beyond its gates.

“More people visit zoos in this country than all sporting events counted together,” said a press release from the center. “Our wolves are a part of learning for so many.”

The departing wolves have a few claims to fame. The father of the four was a wild wolf in Yellowstone National Park; he came to live at the Wildlife Center after he lost his front leg. The year his pups were born, Animal Planet filmed two specials at the center, and the pups were “seconds” in some footage.

The Wildlife Science Center, a private, nonprofit organization located at 5463 West Broadway Ave., Forest Lake, is home to more than 50 wolves, cougars, bears, lynx, raptors and other wildlife. It has the state’s largest collection of wolves and offers education programs to students of all ages. The center also collaborates with researchers from all over the country to further the cause of wolf conservation.
