MT: FWP closing wolf hunt in WMU 390

Fish, Wildlife & Parks said today the agency will close wolf hunting in Wolf Management Unit 390 on Wednesday evening because the pre-established quota has been met.

Quota in the WMU is 18 and 18 wolves have been killed.

WMU 390 is basically east of Interstate 15 and south of Highway 200 between Great Falls and Sidney.

The unit includes portions of Silver Bow, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Cascade, Meagher, Gallatin, Park, Judith Basin, Wheatland, Sweet Grass, Stillwater, Carbon, Golden Valley, Fergus, Petroleum, Musselshell, Yellowstone, Big Horn, Treasure, Rosebud, Garfield, McCone, Prairie, Custer, Powder River, Carter, Fallon, Wibaux, Dawson and Richland counties.

The hunt ends half an hour after sunset on Wednesday.

The order halting the hunt came after Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials received word that the pre-established harvest quota for wolves in the WMU had been met.

Thirteen of the 15 Wolf Management Units or sub-units remain open. In all, 76 wolves have been killed this season.
