NM: Info on wolf restoration, refuge

By Journal and wire reports

The Amigos de la Sevilleta is holding its annual meeting, which will feature a talk by wildlife biologist Mike Phillips.

Phillips was the project leader for the restoration of wolves to the Yellowstone ecosystem and has been executive director of the Turner Endangered Species Fund since 1997. His talk, entitled “Wolf Restoration: Many Matters of Concern,” will consider problems and opportunities in restoring wolves, including wolf-livestock interactions, the importance and significance of large predators and why restoration is appropriate.

The meeting, set for Feb. 2 from 1-3 p.m. at the Sevilleta Visitor Center near Socorro, also will offer information about the “friends,” as well as about the refuge. Reserve a spot by calling 505-864-4021.
