NO: Norwegian record hunt of Swedish wolves

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

OSLO / TT-NTB

This year Norwegian hunters shot 14 wolves. There have not been so many wolves shot since 1949 when 17 wolves were put down, according to the Norwegian organization Rovdata that keeps count of the number of predators in Norway.

All the wolves are either from Sweden or from the territory in the border area, according Rovdata’s boss Morten Kjørstad to Norwegian radio NRK.

The takedown of wolves is high since Rovdata has a running count showing that there are only between 17 and 28 wolves in the country.

Norwegian authorities have decided that each year will be born three wolf litters within a limited area in southeastern Norway. That goal has been achieved in the past four years, says Kjørstad.
