Olympia mason worker builds pond for Wolf Haven International pack

Olympia mason worker builds pond for Wolf Haven International pack

Lois Bell; The News Tribune

Olympia resident Todd Harris combined his love of nature with his masonry
skills and built a pond as a memorial to his grandmother.

The pond will benefit the wolf pack that makes up the newest residents at
Wolf Haven International – the seven-member San Bernardino wolf pack.

Harris, 31, is owner and operator of Olympia-based Stone People – Water
Gardens and Landscape Masonry. He developed a fondness for Wolf Haven
while installing paver bricks in the sanctuary’s “Path of Understanding,”
a path where the bricks are donated by Wolf Haven supporters, often as
tributes to relatives or pets who have passed away or to Wolf Haven
wolves.

Harris’ parents, who have one of their son’s ponds in their yard, donated
$1,500 to cover the cost of materials. Harris donated his labor.

The water feature includes a two-tiered pond with a waterfall, a
circulating pump and a skimmer box – a project that would normally cost as
much as $7,000. It is in the larger portion of the pack’s two adjoining
enclosures.

The feature used between five and six tons of granite rock and has a
heavy-duty animal-safe liner for the ponds.

Wolf Haven is located at 3111 Offut Lake Road, Tenino. It is open from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays (closed during the month of
February). Guided walking tours of wolves are given on the hour between 10
a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is $4 to $6.
