OR: Oregon-based gray wolf returns from California

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon wildlife officials say the gray wolf that took a brief jaunt into Northern California is back in Klamath County.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Michelle Dennehy said the 2 1/2-year-old male wolf known as OR-25 entered California on Dec. 17 and returned north earlier this month after spending a few weeks there.

OR-25 first appeared in Klamath County last May after leaving northeast Oregon’s Imnaha Pack.

Dennehy said OR-25 went south of his normal range into California while his pack stayed in Klamath County.

Amaroq Weiss at the Center for Biological Diversity said last week that OR-25 may have been seeking a mate or following the scent trail of other wolves that went south.
